4x4 Chev/Fords - Army Overseas and in NZ
New Zealand was gutted of the majority of its trucking fleet during WW2, the the vehicles our forces were using overseas, came back with them, and were put to use to plug the shortage.
The variations of the Chev and Ford 4x4s, commonly refered to as ‘Quads’ in particular proved very attractive for a variety of uses in the rural sector post war.
Mossburn Transport ran this ‘Quad’ as a spreader unit, which the war images were photographed by Jack McDonald in the Palestine, where he served with the ambulance corps.
Together with the GMC 6×6, these trucks helped the country struggle through some very difficult times as trucks were near impossible to obtain for the decade or so after the war.
