Logging is one of New Zealand’s greatest export earners and there wouldn’t be an industry without the logging trucks that haul loads of logs from all points of the compass to the ports and wood-mills scattered around the country.

Log trucks are asked to go into some of New Zealand’s most hidden corners and the work is demanding on both the equipment and operator.

There is no room for error where many of these trucks go, and driving a log truck has demands than few other aspects of road transport has.

Logging trucks often have to work on rough tracks, mud or through rivers, while other trucks such as some of the off-highway doubles and triples working in the private Kaingaroa forestry estate on the volcanic plateau might be operating at more than 200 tonnes of weight – and these are some of the heaviest trucks at work in the world.

New Zealand has a “wall of logs” that needs harvesting over the next few decades and if ever there is a career with long term career prospects – it’s being a logging truck operator!
