Wilder Transport

Wilder Transport became a major player in the industry in very short order after the Transpac collapse, and owner Dave Wilder grew the company from just a few vehicles into one of the country’s biggest fleets within a few years.

Arguably best known for two things – Mercedes, as illustrated here with the much heralded at the time – arrival of these seven new Mercedes-Benz tractors in one order, and for the Cadbury run which saw them transport Cadbury product From Dunedin to Auckland  with a fleet of specially sign-written B-trains which was a big deal at the time.

Ken Bell told me that this was the first batch on the road for Wilder, but that was followed by another batch of six, and then a further seven. He remembers that you didn’t have to go far to see one of their rigs in those days.

These Freightliners caused quite a stir when they and their trailers arrived.

TMC built the decks and trailers, but I’ve lost track of where they went and who owns them now.
