Fred Andrews experimented with a variety of combinations to help get large quantities of superphosphate and lime on the ground in Southland cost effectively and this monster 8x8 MAN was one of duo, the other being a Merc 8X8 that he put to work.

MD4802 was the first Nissan Diesel sold by CVC and it went to Andrews Transport of Riversdale in Southland.
This model proved particularily popular in Southland and Otago the CWA series help establish the brand in the region.

Livestock trucks enjoyed a slackening of the distance regulations prior to deregulation in the mid eighties, and the eight-wheeler and three-axle trailer combination was well established by then.
Over-cab penstocks were a common sight in New Zealand during the eighties and nineties, but as cabs got higher, and lengths got longer, the need for them dried up.
A great example of a brand not longer on our roads, and this picture was taken when Andrew’s had a variety of other brands in the livery, including Mack which where starting to highlight the shortcomings of this Brit.
It’s always hard to cut the apron strings, but once import restrictions were lifted and the British products were no longer protected – they were shown to be wanting in the technology and durability race.
The bell finally tolled for a brand that gave great service to this country but it rightly deserves to be remembered.
