Benson – Frank

Frank Benson worked for CablePrice in the 1950s and 60s, and was a keen photographer.

He oversaw orders, delivered and commissioned many of the brands the company was responsible for during that period and his photos are a snapshot in time for a name that is still very prominent in the New Zealand construction and road transport industries.

We are immensely grateful to Hamish Petrie who has spent much time  providing the information for these images.

Few individuals have been as diligent and committed as has Hugh Scofield of Christchurch, who has combed much of the country in his quest to save as much of our road transport pictorial imagery as possible.

From his own pocket he has had thousands upon thousands of images scanned or printed and his collections helped inspire this Truckarchive Heritage initiative.

We are immensely grateful to Hamish Petrie who has spent much time  providing the information for these images.

Wallis -George – Westcoast Haast

George formed Haast Transport Ltd in 1965, and with the purchase of B.H Cowan Ltd., in 1968, had two areas on his goods service licence and his subsequent activities greatly benefited the economy of the large region he serviced.

He established a freight run linking Haast with Central Otago, had five-trucks on permanent contract to the M.O.W. building the Haast road, carted deer
carcasses twice-weekly to Christchurch, supplied Mobil fuel and organised the livestock cartage for the massive annual cattle sales for the region.
