Legacy - 1999 Ryal Bush going into Lilybank Station

Ryal Bush Transport were one of the earliest transport companies to engage in deer transportation, and infact their famous ERF ‘Deerhunter’ eight-wheeler sits in the Bill Richardson Transport World muesum.

Here we find them headed into Lilybank Station in Canterbury at the head of Lake Tekapo, to bring out a three truck and trailer loads of deer.

The Macauley River is one of the most notorious in the country and has claimed many a vehicle, and as has become the norm, a grader is on hand to ease them across the gravel river beds.

It’s easier not to get an eight-wheeler stuck, than un-stuck…

The brands on show are Volvo, Hino and ERF and this clip really showcases some of the country that a livestock driver might experience.
