Mercedes convoy - Lewis Pass to West Coast

Back in the nineties, when Mercedes-Benz franchise holder at the time – Cable Price – sold a Hitachi UH501 digger to Coal Corp for the Denniston mine on the West Coast – they wanted to maximise the brand exposure by carting the big digger on nothing but Merc’s.

Transporting the digger was a massive logistics exercise and Merc’s were drawn in from all over Canterbury and the ‘Coast for the exercise.

Most of the companies on this trip no longer ply our roads,  – but it was a unique operation at the time and well worth dusting off to be included on these pages.
