Mercedes convoy - Lewis Pass to West Coast

Back in the nineties, when Mercedes-Benz franchise holder at the time – Cable Price – sold a Hitachi UH501 digger to Coal Corp for the Denniston mine on the West Coast – they wanted to maximise the brand exposure by carting the big digger on nothing but Merc’s.

Transporting the digger was a massive logistics exercise and Merc’s were drawn in from all over Canterbury and the ‘Coast for the exercise.

Most of the companies on this trip no longer ply our roads,  Рbut it was a unique operation at the time and well worth dusting off to be included on these pages.
