Truck driving at the highest level requires a set of skills that have to be learned, developed and honed just as any other trade or profession requires.

You start with a Class 1 – car licence, and work your way up through the licence classes until to reach Class 5, which allows you to drive the big combinations you see on our roads.

It’s a job that has a great deal of responsibility. You will be in charge of a combination that might be up to 50-tonne in weight, have nine-sets of axles and you may be carrying loads worth millions of dollars.

The combination of truck and trailing equipment may be worth up to a million dollars even before you put a load on it!

It’s a big responsibility but few jobs are as exciting and varied as that of a truck driver.

The pathway to whichever level of professional driving that you aspire can be followed on this site.

We can point you towards organisations that provide driving courses and there are fast-track options to get you behind the wheel sooner than later.

On this site are clips that will give you an idea of what to expect should you want to explore some of the many directions you could take in the road transport industry.
